World Primer

The World Primer serves as a worldbuilder's eye view on the setting and systems of the world, to show the reasoning behind creative decisions, and to give you a sense for what we intend for the world to feel like. This page is intended for player knowledge, not character knowledge - for that, see the Lore Primer.

Genre

The intention for this world is to fit two main genres:

  • Low Fantasy - where magic is not a focus, but rather an intrusion upon the world; and
  • Dark Fantasy - where themes of horror, despair, and the human condition can be explored.

These were chosen so that we can explore more gritty, gruesome, and sometimes disturbing topics in a mature and direct way within a world full of moral ambiguity and lethal threats.

Setting/World

The setting of the world is based on the typical 'medieval European fantasy' that's seen in works like The Lord of the Rings, Dungeons & Dragons, and Arthurian legend. We build on top of that with a historical intrusion of magic unto the world (à la the Conjunction of the Spheres in The Witcher) within the past few centuries which brought with it monsters, some races, and magical anomalies. Currently, the setting includes two nations (Orotos and Silestra) in a commonwealth
