Silestra

The Grand Duchy of Silestra is a nation in the north and is the partner state to Orotos in the Oroto-Silestran Commonwealth. Its territory covers vast swathes of boreal forest, some tundra, and the foothills of the northern mountains. The climate is generally cold, but has gotten colder and colder in recent years, to the point where the nation is covered in snow year-round with frequent blizzards in the winter.

The Silestran monarchy is unique amongst nations in that the monarch is in a way elected, does not claim a divine right, and does not hold absolute power.

Peasantry

Silestra's peasantry makes up a large proportion of the commoners. Peasants are bound to the land which they work on and whichever noble owns the land. They have an obligation to provide labour, rent, or produce for their lord and have little personal freedom. Living conditions vary, but rarely reach squalidity as it is recognised that they are collectively the backbone of the economy. Peasants typically worked in agriculture, forestry, or other lowly manual labour jobs.

Servantry

Rather than being bound to land, servants are bound to a noble and their household. They have more personal freedoms and can generally travel freely in the local area during the few rest periods they have. Most live on their noble's estate to be readily available to perform their duties at all times. Servants are usually fed and clothed by their employer in basic fashions, and are sometimes paid small wages or in-kind.
